Act Before It’s Gone! Great Travel Deals Disappearing Soon

July has had some great bonus opportunities for the casual traveler. Are you taking advantage of all the opportunities to earn some miles for doing next to nothing? Find out now!

First, there was the Spirit Airline giveaway at the cleverly titled website HateThousandMiles.com giving away 8,000 miles. We wrote here about how you can in less than two minutes turn those free 8,000 miles into not just one but two to three great magazines. The Economist, Time and ESPN were our go to selections. A few folks wrote us pretty excited about People and Vogue. The promo is scheduled to end July 31, 2014 or whenever Spirit awards one billion miles. So the message is simple: Act now to make sure you don’t miss out!

Then, Virgin America grabbed our interest. “Loyalty Made Me Do It” is their promo, and it’s also pretty great. A ton of our friends are huge Virgin America fans. We’re not the biggest fan of their loyalty program but yes, they have great planes, awesome service, and a catchy safety information video.

And if domestic flights and redemption are your thing, then Virgin America does become pretty attractive. So if you don’t have an account, there’s no better time than now to get one. By using this link you’ll automatically get 500 miles. Fly once before December 31, 2014 and you’ll get anywhere from 2,500 miles to 7,500 miles depending on which cabin you book your flight in. What are you waiting for?

If you have an American Express, make sure you’re regularly logging in and checking out “Amex Offers for you” offers. With a couple clicks, you could be getting some great deals. Our current favorite that we were targeted for, $25 statement credit on our Amex Platinum when we spend $25 at COSTCO. There are also reports of $20 credits for $20 of spending on Amazon. Our COSTCO deal expires 8/15/14 so log in, see what you’ve got, and make sure to utilize it before the expiration date!

Finally, in the world of credit car bonuses, uncertainty is a part of life. We’ve written about how much we love the Chase Sapphire Preferred. If you’re just starting out in miles and just want to dip your feet in, this is the card we recommend, no ifs ands or buts about it.

  • It’s got great points earning on travel and dining.
  • There’s a nice signup bonus of 40,000 points after 3k in spending, and an additional 5k for adding another user (think your partner) and has a great earning structure of 2 points per mile for dining and travel.
  • It has no foreign transaction fee.
  • It has a chip for easier use abroad in places like Europe.
  • Points are easily transferable to a ton of great partners like Hyatt, United, and so on.
  • It also comes with a very cool 7% annual bonus at the end of the year on all points earned… for now.

Gary Leff, a miles Guru reports on his blog that the 7% bonus might be disappearing. Nothing is written in stone, but one person on his website commented that his banker at Chase said starting July 20th, the benefit will disappear for new card users.

Nothing is confirmed, but why chance it? If you’ve been wanting to dip your toes in the world of free travel but have been reluctant, here’s your push. Want to sign up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred? Funny you should ask, we DO have a link to the application!
